A Spring Gruv Wedding for Lauren & Stuart

 I do not think you could plan a more fun wedding than Lauren and Stuart’s, which took place this past March over our annual Spring Gruv weekend here at the Resort. They touched on every note– brilliant bright colors, fun patterns, great DJ, surprise bag piper for the groom, shot-ski and to top it all off, the couple joined in the annual Canyons spring ritual of Pond Skimming.  Mother Nature even blessed this couple with a blanket of fresh Utah Powder for their ceremony at Red Pine Lodge. This was nothing short of a perfect spring ski season wedding, and Amy Lashelle Photography was on site to capture the whole day of activities  (and weather).

Winter Wedding Magic for Lisa and Ryan

Our Canyons Resort team was able to kick off our winter wedding season this year with this incredible destination event at Red Pine Lodge for Lisa and Ryan. The couple had such an artistic approach to their day. Lisa worked with Kasey Aune at Harvest Moon to pull together all of the tiny details that really made this event sparkle.

Based in Washington state, the couple elected to have a ski destination wedding this winter and celebrate the new year with eighty of their closest friends and family.  They also created some really unique memories at their event, with the Best Man playing the guitar for the bride and groom during their first dance, and the Bride feeding the groom a spoonful of creme brule (instead of cake) to celebrate their marriage.  They decorated the gondola car for their send off. This was really such a great example of how you can break the rules of weddings, and just do what makes you as a couple happy. It is your wedding, it should be what you want!

 

 

Photographer Ben Blood, also out of Washington, made the trip to Park City, and captured all of the wonderful details of this wedding.

We asked Lisa what her favorite detail was for her wedding and she replied, “so many things were wonderful. The food really stands out in my mind. Most weddings have average food, but not ours. We didn’t get a chance to do a tasting so I had no idea what to expect. The food was outstanding, and plated beautifully, one of my favorites was the rocky mountain fondue.”  Guests were treated to a plated meal of Seared Chicken Breast with Lemon Bur Blanc and Parmesan Artichoke Risotto; Grilled Filet Mignon with Caremelized Shallot Demi Glace, and Buttermilk Yukon Gold Smashed Potatoes; our Signature Pomegranate Lemonade, and assorted pies and warm housemade apple crisp instead of tradtional wedding for dessert.

Lisa also had the following advice for future Canyons Brides. “Trust your planners. Bre was so amazing throughout the whole process. We also worked with Kasey Aune at Harvest Moon Events. They both worked so hard to make sure I got everything I wanted but still stayed in my budget. This was a destination wedding for us so I had to trust in my girls. They did an awesome job.”

Brittany & Stephen’s Midsummer Night Dream

It is snowing again today in Park City and I am hunkered down in my cozy office and wool sweater. And, while I am looking forward to hitting the slopes tomorrow, it does make me long for the warm, lush, green days of July again. So, to get us back in the summer spirit, we are sharing one of our great summer weddings.

Brittany and Stephen were married at Red Pine Lodge this past July. The couple were college sweethearts and spent many of their breaks at Stephen’s parents home here in Park City. They were excited to share the town with their guests and show them the best of what the mountains can offer. When we asked Brittany what her favorite thing about her wedding was, she said, “My favorite thing about my wedding was marrying my best friend….but about the Canyons was the gorgeous location and my guests loved riding the gondola!”

The couple chose green as a primary color for their event, and used soft feminine touches combined with a rustic woodsy feel.  They also added some playful touches like custom s’ mores for favors, to keep it fun and youthful, which matched  the couple. Truly, perfect for early July. Aria Photography was on hand to capture all the fabulous details.

As it turns out, Brittany may have been ahead of a trend using green. According to Pantone, Green is going to be the new hot color for 2013!

As We Enter the New Year…

As we enter in to a new year, it is always fun to reflect on the great achievements, events and stories of the past. In looking through all the incredible photos we have received over the past few years, we thought it would be fun to come up with a “best of the best” of first looks and portraits from our mountain weddings. In this two part installment, we tried to pick photos we thought really either showcased our resort, or were just super creative and interesting shots.

Fall Elegance for Danielle and Wade

I am so excited to share Danielle and Wade’s wedding. The couple wed on Sept. 22nd this year and shared the most spectacular fall mountain day. When I met this young couple last January, they knew they wanted a wedding ceremony at Red Pine in the fall to really showcase the best of the season for their mostly out of town guests.  The guests were then treated to a cocktail hour on our Red Tail Restaurant deck, looking up at our world class resort and passed southwestern canapes. And, then, what had to be one of the best parties I saw of the year with a reception in the Grand Ballroom.  They had so many gorgeous fall hilighting details. Danielle picked shades of deep purple, rust and gold with leaves, branches and soft white flowers to pull the fall theme together. The Ballroom was electric with perfect lighting from Five Star AV, specially selected linen and chiavaris, and the best dance band in Utah.  But, what I remember most from this wedding was how incredibly happy and totally in love the bride and groom seemed. This had to be one of my most favorite weddings to have been a part of.  I will let the excellent images from photographer, Jessica Smith Parker of Jessica’s Photography, tell the rest of this love story.

Beth and Chad’s True Rustic Elegance

I have already posted a teaser of some wedding photos from Beth and Chad’s wedding a few weeks ago, because I was just so impressed with the look and feel of the event; and now have the professional images to share as well.  I had the pleasure of working with Beth and Chad on their wedding over Labor Day weekend, along with their planner, Utah Events by Design. I could not have been more impressed with how gorgeous this Lookout Cabin intimate wedding turned out. There were just so many details.  I think that this is a perfect example of how the little elegant details can really enhance a rustic setting.  Inspired by the gold band in the bride’s dress, the couple really enhanced everything– the chairs, the linens, the charger plates, even the silverware. They truly made the Lookout Cabin space their own!

Britt Chudleigh was kind enough to share these images with us and this week I am “thankful” for that! 

I had a chance to ask Beth and Chad what they loved most about their wedding at Lookout Cabin, and they said, “Our favorite thing was being surrounded by such beautiful nature at the secluded mountain top location. We didn’t use a single decoration at the wedding ceremony because we knew it would be gorgeous as is! I was overjoyed by a rainbow that appeared to us on top of the mountain (after some good luck sprinkles!), and an enormous full moon to admire on the chairlift ride down when we left the reception. The best wedding planner in the world couldn’t have planned those details! Plus we loved being in a rustic setting and still eating gourmet food.”

That may be my favorite response to that question yet! Thank you to Beth, Chad and their family. And, a huge thanks to Michelle Cousins from Utah Events by Design for creating this masterpiece.

Menu: Guests were treated to an incredible meal that featured a roasted red pepper soup, seared bone-in chicken breast with a homemade goat cheese filled ravioli in an aromatic marsala broth, cedar plank grilled salmon with quinoa pilaf and homemade gnocci with grilled portabella, roasted tomato and arugula.

A Fresh Perspective from Bryanne & Ben

The Canyons Romance team and I had the wonderful chance to work with Bryanne and Ben on their wedding this summer– a truly cool couple from Omaha. Their destination wedding was fun and gorgeous. When I asked Ben what he thought about his experience here at Canyons, he said, “Most of our guests had never been to Park City or the Canyons before. It was incredible to have so many of our closest friends and family members in such a beautiful setting. We got so many compliments on how beautiful and unique the location was and had many people express that it was the best wedding and reception they’ve ever attended. We had so much fun…wish that we could relive that night over and over again!”

One of the things I remember most from their wedding day was the little surprise from mother nature– passing rain shower in the afternoon. My parents were married on a rainy day 40 YEARS AGO, so I sincerely believe that rain is a sign of good luck on your wedding day. These showers came through right at the time scheduled for their first look pictures.  Luckily, they had Mitch Burt from Zuma Photo, and what could have been a tough moment, thanks to his creativity, came out as a truly cool and fresh look for wedding photos at Canyons.  And, I would say, looking through all of Bryanne and Ben’s shots, the creativity came through all day long. As is the case with most Utah rain storms, it passed quickly and Bryanne and Ben got a classic sunny summer evening happy ending.

Chrystal and Patrick– Capturing the Essence of Vintage Rustic at Red Pine

Undeniably, the past two years has seen the incredible rise of the vintage rustic wedding trend. While their may be some (ehem, Huffington Post) that may be ready to see it fade, it seems that the public has spoken– vintage is here to stay a while longer. And, why not? The style lends for the small details and personal touches that can make the event more meaningful to the couple. Chrystal and Patrick’s wedding at Red Pine really does capture the best that this style has to offer. Touches like the shades of blush and champagne bridesmaid dresses, to the bride’s choice of unique shoes and lace dress, to the wishing well guestbook and touches of burlap or family recipe cards are all examples of the great things you can do with this theme.  It turned out gorgeous and a great fit at Red Pine. Photographer, and friend from Arizona, Mike Olbinski, was on site to catch all the details.

We asked Chrystal what her favorite moment was, and she replied, “That’s a tough question because we liked so many things from the entire weekend! Riding in the gondola over the canyon, Pat and my first look down the trail, walking down the bridge to the ceremony, the entrance to dinner when the smell of fajitas filled the room, our first dance and all the amazingly fun dancing that followed (especially when the crazy glasses came out) we really had an epic experience that we will always remember.”

We had an “epic” experience with this couple too!
