Lydia & Tim Leave the Package Behind

Our Canyons Wedding Team works very hard to make the wedding planning process a simple and enjoyable experience. In doing so, we have designed several different levels of wedding packages for our couples to select from. But, we also strive to make every wedding feel unique and special for those bride and grooms. Many couples have ideas when it comes to food, wine, special touches to a timeline or setup.  Our Team is more than happy to offer creative suggestions to help put a couples’ personal spin on one of our packages or to totally customize.

Lydia and Tim definitely made Red Pine Lodge their own by walking away from our package plan and custom designing their event with our Event Managers. Their approach inlcuded a different ceremony and cocktail hour location than we would typically use, as well as a black and white checkered dance floor rental. They had a great idea to use different bottles of wine for their guestbook that would be opened for future anniversaries. In addition, they added a southern inspired twist on our menu for the evening, and created a “tunnel of love” send off to the gondola to cap off the event.

We asked Lydia what her favorite detail from the wedding was, she she said, “My favorite detail was the groom (and groomsmen) flowers. We saved the succulents and replanted them — the groom’s survived and is growing! It’s something special to have beyond the wedding and to watch it grow… etc.” Great advice for any couples out there with a green thumb!

Catering/Menu: Canyons Resort helped to customize a menu that featured a live action seafood station with Shrimp and Grits, as well as clams, mussels and scallops, as well as Crisp Maple Leaf Farms Duck Breast with Dried Apricot Brandy Glaze and a Garlic Seared Swiss Chard and Truffled Asparagus Risotto.

Brittany & Stephen’s Midsummer Night Dream

It is snowing again today in Park City and I am hunkered down in my cozy office and wool sweater. And, while I am looking forward to hitting the slopes tomorrow, it does make me long for the warm, lush, green days of July again. So, to get us back in the summer spirit, we are sharing one of our great summer weddings.

Brittany and Stephen were married at Red Pine Lodge this past July. The couple were college sweethearts and spent many of their breaks at Stephen’s parents home here in Park City. They were excited to share the town with their guests and show them the best of what the mountains can offer. When we asked Brittany what her favorite thing about her wedding was, she said, “My favorite thing about my wedding was marrying my best friend….but about the Canyons was the gorgeous location and my guests loved riding the gondola!”

The couple chose green as a primary color for their event, and used soft feminine touches combined with a rustic woodsy feel.  They also added some playful touches like custom s’ mores for favors, to keep it fun and youthful, which matched  the couple. Truly, perfect for early July. Aria Photography was on hand to capture all the fabulous details.

Menu: A light summer seasonal buffet that featured tenderloin, chicken and included a fresh baby spinach salad with bright local strawberries, Utah goat cheese and pistachios, orzo pasta salad with Humboldt Fog cheese and chopped cucumbers, our signature Utah Trout with brown butter emulsion, steamed summer veggies and fingerling potatoes.

Fall Elegance for Danielle and Wade

I am so excited to share Danielle and Wade’s wedding. The couple wed on Sept. 22nd this year and shared the most spectacular fall mountain day. When I met this young couple last January, they knew they wanted a wedding ceremony at Red Pine in the fall to really showcase the best of the season for their mostly out of town guests.  The guests were then treated to a cocktail hour on our Red Tail Restaurant deck, looking up at our world class resort and passed southwestern canapes. And, then, what had to be one of the best parties I saw of the year with a reception in the Grand Ballroom.  They had so many gorgeous fall hilighting details. Danielle picked shades of deep purple, rust and gold with leaves, branches and soft white flowers to pull the fall theme together. The Ballroom was electric with perfect lighting from Five Star AV, specially selected linen and chiavaris, and the best dance band in Utah.  But, what I remember most from this wedding was how incredibly happy and totally in love the bride and groom seemed. This had to be one of my most favorite weddings to have been a part of.  I will let the excellent images from photographer, Jessica Smith Parker of Jessica’s Photography, tell the rest of this love story.

A Fresh Perspective from Bryanne & Ben

The Canyons Romance team and I had the wonderful chance to work with Bryanne and Ben on their wedding this summer– a truly cool couple from Omaha. Their destination wedding was fun and gorgeous. When I asked Ben what he thought about his experience here at Canyons, he said, “Most of our guests had never been to Park City or the Canyons before. It was incredible to have so many of our closest friends and family members in such a beautiful setting. We got so many compliments on how beautiful and unique the location was and had many people express that it was the best wedding and reception they’ve ever attended. We had so much fun…wish that we could relive that night over and over again!”

One of the things I remember most from their wedding day was the little surprise from mother nature– passing rain shower in the afternoon. My parents were married on a rainy day 40 YEARS AGO, so I sincerely believe that rain is a sign of good luck on your wedding day. These showers came through right at the time scheduled for their first look pictures.  Luckily, they had Mitch Burt from Zuma Photo, and what could have been a tough moment, thanks to his creativity, came out as a truly cool and fresh look for wedding photos at Canyons.  And, I would say, looking through all of Bryanne and Ben’s shots, the creativity came through all day long. As is the case with most Utah rain storms, it passed quickly and Bryanne and Ben got a classic sunny summer evening happy ending.

I absolutely am in love with some of these unique shots of Canyons and Red Pine.  Thank you to our preferred vendor Zuma Photo for their artistic perspective, postivity, continued partnership and professionalism.

Cristina and Scott’s Sunny Summer Details

Cristina and Scott shared their vows on a sunny summer day in August at Red pine Lodge this summer. Bright colors of yellows and teal really enhanced the fun summer evening. This wedding is also a great example of how a few small details can really accent your wedding and bring your personality to the venue. Some examples here are the use of the frames with a small wildflower or aspen leaf on each escort card (to indicate the meal selection), the tree stump table numbers, the colorful chinese lanterns and wildflowers set in small metal pails. Harvest Moon Events, lead by Kasey Aune, designed the event with whimsical summer rustic elegance and James Erick Photography captured the day.

Menu: Guests enjoyed homemade sausage stuffed mushrooms with a smoked tomato sauce, beef tenderloin skewers with rosemary and balsamic and a display of Rocky Mountain Fondue- the perfect fit at a ski resort for the cocktail hour. A plated dinner followed with choice of Chicken, Salmon or Homemade Ravioli.

Nicole & Damon’s September Magic

If you ask most locals what the perfect day in Park City is, they will either tell you a blue bird day following a huge snow storm, or a day at the end of September. End of September offers bright sun, mild but warm day time weather, a little crisp night air, and tons of colors- greens, reds, yellows and golds.  When Nicole and Damon knowingly chose September for their wedding, it was destined for some of that mountain fall magic. The couple played to the fall using oranges and purples for their colors as well lots and lots of candles. It was a gorgeous fit in our rustic mountain lodge.

Décor elements: Bright flowers in oranges, purples and ivory, with tons and tons of different shape and style candles, real moss table runners, aspen bark accents and gold and purple up-lighting. The windows were also lined in tea lights to really make the room glow.

Menu: Guests were treated to a plated dinner with pistachio crusted Utah trout, filet mignon with caramelized shallot demi glace and a grilled vegetable and polenta napoleon.

Most Unique Moment (according to the Bride): Walking down the aisle, holding both of her Dad’s arms and seeing Damon, her future husband.

We also thought some of the more memorable moments were having her dog Fergie walk down the aisle. She was just so cute! And, the sister of the groom, who had the most incredible voice, sat in with the Joe Muscolino Band for a few songs during the reception. The team was totally impressed!

Shannon & Matt’s Soft and Romantic July Wedding

Situated amongst the aspen trees, mountain stream and wild grasses at 8,100 feet, the Red Pine Lodge often lends itself to a rustic elegant style when it comes to choosing decor. We have seen almost every color of the rainbow work in the lodge, but often couples will elect to use more mountain style elements like branches, river rocks and grasses. So, when we saw Shannon and Matt’s totally romantic and more feminine approach to decorating the lodge, we definitely took notice. Unanimously, we all decided that the juxtaposition of the pastel colors, soft flowers and unique ornate touches against the natural woods of Red Pine was a total success.  The bride and groom were also very clever in tying in the mountain theme too by naming the tables after favorite ski runs and using some rustic curly willow.

Most Unique Moment (according to the Bride): The music list playing at dinner was composed of the guests’ wedding songs.  So, many couples either kissed or stood up and danced when they heard the song they first danced to the day of their own wedding come on.  I think it reminded them what a wedding celebration is really all about. And, there was a real moose that made an appearance during dancing too!
